Description arcaneone 2003-11-19 19:32:24 UTC
Version: 3.1.3 (using KDE KDE 3.1.3)
Installed from: Mandrake RPMs
OS: Linux

A list of shortcuts should be accesiable via pressing the F1 key. Currently new users who are interested in keyboard only navigation or those who's mouse is not working for some reason are left not knowing what to do. This will leave many users frustrated. I realize KDE uses some of the same key strokes as Windows but you can't expect the user to figure what are they are. This would also useful for intermediate user(most users) to learn new ones as they are needed.

These shortcuts should include navigate root menus(start kde, panel buttons, desktop pager), opening common apps(Konqueror, Konsole), turning on/off the "keyboard mouse" along with the KDE control center.

I realize that 3.1.(3-4) is in a freeze but I feel this is really important inorder to get new and retain users. All that is needed right now is a single page with a list of basic shortcuts that allow the user navigate KDE linked to the F1 and/or others keys commonly associated with getting help. I know this would be a matter of creating a help page and associating and creating a shortcut to it. Once the freeze is lifted pages along with links to the individual app's help files can be add.
