Version:           3.0.0b1 (using KDE 3.1.93 (CVS >= 20031111), yes)
Compiler:          gcc version 3.2
OS:          Linux (i686) release 2.4.21-1up.1

Whenever I invoke a command from the "build" menu, the messages window flashes on and off rapidly for a second before starting the build process.  Ultimately it works but it's distracting.

This is with latest qt-copy and kde* from CVS HEAD of a few days ago.

I noticed this too and it's really bad.  Not like 1 or 2 extra redraws but a few dozen it seems ... Perhaps a redundant redraw for each window (tab) embedded along with the message window ?

I'm using QT 3.2.2 and latest CVS HEAD from yesterday.

This bug looks like it has been fixed in my latest build.  I think it's related to a patch that went in either today or yesturday.  Probably can be closed if no more reports come in.
