I believe that this happens if you have installed a version of KDE3.2 over the top of a KDE 3.1 or older distribution. The problem is that there is no longer a klaptopdaemon program (it's now a kde daemon and shares a process/thread with lots of other daemons). If your saved session includes "start klaptopdaemon" it will start the old one as well. The solution: remove any old copies of klaptopdaemon from your disk (or do a really fresh install) - do a new 'save session' from the K menu - logout/login again go to the laptop control panel and turn on the battery display again (Note: having said this I have heard of unconfirmed problems with the laptop kicker icon and the video mode kicker icon occasionally getting stranded like this - this may relate to the recent kwin changes and is a different bug) This is actually a systray/kwin bug. But there are other copies of the same issue around in bugzilla, too. Maksim - see the note above - I believe it could be either - I've already had one other person report the 'old klaptopdaemon binary still hanging around' problem Subject: Re: klaptop applet displays in upper left corner, not in kicker On Samstag, 15.
