*** Bug 66299 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** You should simply put the complete ~/Mail directory into an archive. For example with "tar cvfz mailbackup.tar.gz ~/Mail". But it's probably better to make a backup of your complete home directory because else you will lose your complete configuration. You can export a single folder by selecting all messages in this folder and then using File->Save As. But note that you'll lose the messages' stati, i.e. Replied or Important, etc. So there isnt a possibility to export the kmail messages ... Yes there is: copy the files. They are the folders. You can export a subset of a complete folder using the procedure Ingo described, but he also mentioned that you lose the status flags. BTW, the plural for "status" is "status" ;-) so thats what i said there isnt the feature of export messages in kmail Subject: Re: Provide a facility to export KMail Messages

Are we speaking Chinese? If there was an "Export Messages" feature then
it would do exactly the same as the File->Save As. Do we really have to
add a redundant menu entry just because you can't accept that Save As
is exactly what you need if you want to export messages?
Ok but for example i cant do a save as to another hard drive i have in fat32, cause wont save those files to bachup emails, i have to compact the folder Mail and then put it where i want...doesnt have the same feature that for example Outlook haves to export mails messages Exporting Email is very important to any normal avrage-user. Telling them that there is an directory (which is hidden in Mandrake) is useless. This is not a functional problem - but a usuability issue. A simple guiding dialog would be great. Even if it does not much more than to save all email in a different location. If kmail does not save in mbox format the user would have to change the email format to mbox first, before he could use the folder for importing in another emailprogram - this means that exporting emails requires much to much knowledge for an average user. |
