What if the page is about to stop loading, you hit the button trying to hit
"Stop", and the button changes so you hit "Reload" instead? I think this is
a bad idea.
I agree with George. It's not much of a problem on broadband, but dial-up can get a good feel for how close to completing the page-load you are. If you are having space issues in the toolbar, either put it on the left-border (this takes a little while to get used to but is remarkably useful IMO) or get rid of the stop and/or reload buttons entirely and just use the Escape & Ctrl-R key sequences to stop/reload. For most users (right-handed mouse users) there's no penalty, since the left hand's always near those keys. OK, convinced ;-) - didn't think of the dial-up problem. I'll mark it as resolved. *** Bug 109835 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** so what about to do another button which will have this reload/stop functionallity and lets users to add it into toolbar by themselfs? as i see it, KDE slowly drops its adventage over other dm which is posibility of setting thing up of users needs.. ill eventually learn C++ and try to fix this wrongly closed "wish". if the stop/reload button will be made then anyone could make a decision himself. screw the modem people anyway, they have their status bar where they can get all the information of progress, by latest statistic in czech republic (which is not exactly the fastest country in the world) there are just about 9% under 56kbps and 31% arround 3mbps Created attachment 18183 [details]
Adds in an optional combined reload/stop button.
In response to the comments:
I see no reason why the user shouldn't have an option. it seems to be a pretty
good idea and is well accepted. Keyword of course is "option".
As for dial-up users.. if they were going to stop the page.. they obviously
don't really want to view it. and even if they did modems are so slow that they
could always just click again to stop it before the page becomes unviewable.
As the original post mentioned, it decreases the amount of icons on your tool
bar and it doesn't take away from the usability.
I think that combining the two functions into one button isn't a good idea. It is predicated on the idea that you would never want to hit reload on a page that hasn't finished loading. I personally do this all the time. I really can't see that the two functionalities are related. just my 2 cents. These 2 functions are not related really. But they are combined in the idea that one doesn't reload a loading page (I personally don't know why you'd ever do that? makes no sense to me.) Plus you'd never stop a loaded page. So to me and many others This makes sense and there for this is a desired feature. In your case you'd have no reason to use it as you.. reload a loading page.. Therefor, Simply do not add it to your toolbar. My patch is designed so that it is an option. If applied to main you'd never even notice the difference. I regularly reload a loading page. #7 simply perfect! is there any chance to see this opinion in main tree? i mean that will you maintain this patch or will you include into kde branch? and if so is it possible to see it in the current 3.5.x? #10 so do you alter your toolbar that much there is no space for another button in settings for toolbars? Martin, yes I use it regularly so if I ever notice a problem with it then I will update it. As for getting it in kde, I'd love to. So far I've never ran into the problem described by #2. Even still a simple fix for dial-up users who run into this problem is the same fix for Lexual, Don't add it to your toolbar. its an *option* :) Reopening. in response to #13: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137277 "reload/stop button as an option in toolbar settings" "*** This bug has been confirmed by popular vote. *** " if you want this as an option, vote there Marking this duplicate, because it's now redundant with the newer bug, and all the votes are there. Thanks Piotr. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 137277 *** |
