Description BryanFRitt 2003-09-28 20:10:57 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.4)
Installed from: RedHat RPMs

Currently double clicking between column headers does nothing,
but it should automatically resize the with of the column to the left.

one way to do it is:
the 1st double click goto the maximum width of selected items shown in the screen
the 2nd double click goto the maximum width of all selected items
the 3rd double click goto the maximum width of items shown in the screen
the 4th double click goto the maximum width of the items in the whole column and
the 5th double click goto some default setting
the 6th double click go back to the way it was before
then go back to doing the 1st click item, etc...
all including the collumn header/title/name (whatever you want to call it) as an item to determine width.
also bypass the width options that would keep the width the same...
like if the current width is 7cm and the next one would put it at 7cm as well,
then that should be bypassed untill you get back to the starting one
 (don't want a infinite loop)

O.K. looks like way too many double clicks...
Maybe get rid of some of them as default (the resize to selection, and/or shown items perhaps)
 make it configurable

All of these could be options that show up when you right click between column headers
--goto the maximum width of selected items shown in the screen
--goto the maximum width of all selected items
--goto the maximum width of items shown in the screen
--goto the maximum width of the items in the whole column and
 --goto some default setting
--go back to the way it was before
 also add
 --goto width...
instead of calling it 'goto' you could call it 'set column width to' or '' or something else

Maybe double left click could mess with the cell to the left,
double right click could mess with the cell to the right,
middle click comes up with the options to resize the columns (left or right of the devider)
That might get a confusing though

Left drag could resize the resize the column to the left while moving the stuff to the right, (like it does now), and
Right drag could move the devidor between the two columns and leave the other columns in exactly the same place.
--good for when I want the columns to take up a certain amount of space.

This could be done with Konqueror, KSpread, open/save dialogs, etc...

7 different double clicks, and all the configuration sounds like overkill. Double clicking in between two columns resizes the left column (here KDE 3.5).
In other words: Please test again with a up-to-date KDE version. Imho we should close it as WORKSFORME.

All reports about file management mode reported against KDE 3 (konqueror) has been closed: konqueror in KDE 3 is no more developed and mantained. All bugs and wishes which could be interesting for Dolphin in KDE 4 (the new KDE file manager) has been collected into a specific list.

Please try the new file manager before request new features and report bugs.

Before submitting new reports check carefully the already opened KDE/Dolphin reports in order not to add duplicates.

Many thanks.

For Dolphin this is not an issue anymore.
