When I use Konqueror to change into a folder I am the owner of, but for which I do not have access permissions (i.e. the access rights are drw-r--r--), Konqueror actually DOES change into the directory, or better say it appears to do so, because the corresponding path is displayed in the address text field of the menu area. Files are not displayed, however, but nevertheless it makes you think that you have changed into a directory while you haven't.

When I use the command line to move into the directory in question, I get an error as expected. I should get an error when I use Konqueror to do the same thing, too (as is the case when I, for example, try to browse "/root" as a regular user).

I don't know if this has to do with the fact that in the case described above, am the owner of the folder - I DO get an error from Konqueror if I try to change into a folder for which I do not have access rights and the owner is a different user.

Confirmed with KDE 3.4 alpha. Need to go back in history when this happens.

This still occurs in 4.0.3


Testcase:

as either user or root:
cd ~
mkdir testdir
touch testdir/file.txt
chmod u-x,g-wx,o-wx testdir

we now have testdir with permissions drw-r--r--

for the expected behaviour, in the command line:
cd testdir
bash: cd: testdir: Permission denied

for unexpected konqueror behaviour, in konqueror, attempt to change into testdir.  An error message appears but we are left with a blank window and the text path in konqueror reads /home/username/testdir -- as if we had changed into testdir.

This also happens to dolphin 4 rc1 and konqueror 4 rc1

All reports about file management mode reported against KDE 3 (konqueror) has been closed: konqueror in KDE 3 is no more developed and mantained. All bugs and wishes which could be interesting for Dolphin in KDE 4 (the new KDE file manager) has been collected into a specific list:

Please try the new file manager before request new features and report bugs.

Before submitting new reports check carefully the already opened KDE/Dolphin reports in order not to add duplicates.
