Description Casey Allen Shobe 2003-09-01 20:41:04 UTC
Version: 3.1.3 (using KDE 3.1.3)
Installed from: compiled sources
Compiler: gcc version 3.2.2
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20

Selecting files is a bitch. I have to start drawing a box in one row at the top, but not in the column where the filename is, even if it's *far* to the right of the filename. Instead, I have to find some place even farther to the right, and start there. If I try starting my selection from the bottom right, then my selection extends slowly downward as I select more files going up (this happens inconsistantly...I can't reproduce it all the time). WHY???? Argh. I can't click in the blank area to the right of the filename, or it opens that file. I can't hold my mouse over the file to select it, because it doesn't work (I don't know if it's supposed to, but having single-click open without some manner of selecting a file is broken, in my opinion)

Okay....got my files selected. Now let me just click on the group and drag them over here. Hey, WHAT THE HELL??? When I click part of a selection, the selection goes away and only the one file is selected. AAAAARGH!!

Okay...I can work with this....very carefully I select a file by clicking something other than the file like it's size (ugh, this is just wrong), then scroll on down and shift-click the last file I want. Now, very cleverly, I drag the files WITHOUT EVER RELEASING THE MOUSE BUTTON, and this seems to work, though it's about as easy and user-friendly as using a blender to peel a banana before eating it. It's also very important that I shift-click the last file NAME COLUMN, which is the exact opposite of what I have to do to select files normally.

This behavior is horrible...does anyone actually use details view? It would be most preferable, if it was usable.

Also inconsistant...sometimes when I try to draw a box from the top down, the
first couple files at the top are skipped and my selection starts a couple
files down.

I'm looking at a folder right now where this happens...if I start my selection
at the top everything is good. If I start it halfway down the screen, the
first file is skipped. If I start it near the bottom, two files are skipped.
Farther even, and it's three. If I continue selecting enough to make the
contents scroll, the situation rights itself somewhere in the scrolling
process SOMETIMES.

Not sure if this behaviour was already present in KDE3.1, but I am sure this
problem was not around in KDE 3.0

It is very annoying and I guess this is an introduced bug because this used to
work just fine.

The Drag and Drop bug has already been fixed in KDE 3.1.4

konqueror's listview: selected items don't get unselected anymore during DnD
operation

... and the remainder is mostly a duplicate of 47584.
