This bug has been reported under konqueror a few times (kde bug 56220), and was eventually marked resolved and said to be a bug in qt. I cannot find it on the qt buglist and it's still not working in KDE 3.1.3 (I'm using qt-x11-free-3.1.2, compiled from sources).

In Icon view, the user can select lots of files by dragging a rectangle around them, then let go of the mouse button, then click on one of the selected files and drag all of them somewhere.

In detailed/tree view however, if the user selects multiple files as above, then tries to click on one of the selected files to drag them, all the other files except that one get deselected.

A work around someone has mentioned is to use Ctrl while clicking on this file, which will leave the others selected and deselect this one, then Ctrl-click the same file again to select it, start dragging and then let go of Ctrl before letting go of the mouse button. This is quite annoying, it would be nice if this bug could be addressed.

As it was said, this is a Qt bug. And there is no public Qt bug list for you 
to check. IIRC, Qt3.2.0 fixes that, and the earlier reports have a patch that fixes
Qt3.1.x as well.
