Of course, the real solution is to make KMail notice changes in the folders. Nevertheless adding a "re-scan folder" option is a good idea. Subject: Re: re-index folder function under RMB

We had discussions about this before, but making this reliable seems to
be difficult (or it's not top of the list). Does kmail keep the folder
size and time stamp? This would be easy to compare and not take CPU
time whenever selecting a new folder, for mbox folders anyway. I am
certain that at least one of size and time has changed when I run into
problems. A reliable way to get kmail out of sync is to open a folder,
and then to add another msg to the same file (procmail, mutt, etc).
So far I have not lost any msg, which I rather like :)
Thanks,
Volker
Re-scanning the folder from the pop-up-menu when right-clicking on the folder name would solve (or rather be a very good wrokaround) for some other annoying long-running problems (68411). sgi-fam and/or gamin linkage like konqueror does with fs changes would be great. Bug #68411 should be considered a dupe wishlist item. Assigning back bugs that weren't taken care of to kdepim-bugs. This is now implemented for maildir and IMAP. Thanks! Of course where this is really needed is for mbox, where kmail is unable to cooperate with other mail clients or procmail. To get kmail's view of the mbox folder back to reality, one has to either modify the folder while kmail is not viewing it, wait 10 seconds, the view the folder and hope the re-indexing doesn't move the last mail to the top when it should be at the bottom (date received sorting), or delete kmail's index files while not viewing the folder or whilekmail is not running. The latter also loses some folder settings. reassign. (In reply to comment #6) > This is now implemented for maildir and IMAP. I don't see any "Rescan" action for my IMAP folders. What is it called and which menu is it in? (KMail 1.13.5 and KDE 4.5.1 on KUbuntu 10.10) Thank you for your feature request. Kmail1 is currently unmaintained so we are closing all wishes. Please feel free to reopen a feature request for Kmail2 if it has not already been implemented. Thank you for your understanding. Instead of creating a new feature request, please confirm here if the wishlist is still valid for kmail2 Yes, still valid. Some method of re-indexing mail files (mbox in particular, but also imap and maildir) is needed because kmail tends to get out of sync. |
