Yes, the plans are there, but not all of the groundwork is there yet. To make this work properly one would first want Kopete to be using the KDE address book as backend instead of its own contact list. After Kopete 0.7 is out we can hopefully start working on it. Whether the actual Kontact integration will be in the next Kopete version after 0.7 remains to be seen though. There's a lot of work to be done to do it right and 0.8 (or whatever we'll name it) might only be the first stepstone towards Kontact integration. But as long as Kopete can be disabled under "select components" this shouldn't bother anyone and could be helpful for those people who like it. We're making some progress on this now: *) No plans as yet to integrate Kopete wholesale into Kontact *) KMail and KAddressbook (also when in Kontact) will display IM status for contacts and allow you to start a chat, at least. *) Konqueror integration is possible but I haven't looked too closely at it yet, besides producing a service menu script hack. *) For Kopete, at least, integration is optional - unless you select 'Has addressbook entry' in a contact's Properties, it will not show in any other app. *) KIMProxy/KIMIface (the generic DCOP interface and wrapper library) allow any KDE app to talk to any IM app that implements KIMIface, for other uses (games invitations, etc) *) ETA is KDE 3.3. Will Un-CC kdepim. Will keeps us up-to-date there anyway. See also Bug 79911 for some integration ideas. As far as Konqueror integration goes, it would be nice to fix up and release the aim:// and icq:// protocol handler scripts for release with the next release, alongside KIMProxy All the things mentioned in this BKO are now complete in CVS. Ok to close? Jolly big slaps on the back to all the Kopete-Kontact integrators! Features added. |
