Installed from:    SuSE RPMs

It would be a good idea to have as an option to display the name or number of a desktop in the middle of the screen for one or two seconds.This would quickly help you identify the desktop for example whend ragging windows from one to the other.

Yes, it is. The previous bug report for kwin is exactly about that feature, but 
that's a separate issue.

This is missing in 5.16.5. It would be very helpful to see the desktop name/number during the switch. You get lost and you don't know which desktop is currently displayed.

Open Virtual Desktops KCM and check "Show on-screen display when switching."
