*** Bug 66613 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I agree, and also think this should be the "default panel" for the navigation panel, in order to strengthen the look-and-feel of KDE's file manager interface. Also with the possibility of adding customised entries to the "save" dialoge side panel, those entries would/should be available to the Konqueror file manager. In 4.x the Places panel in Dolphin lists the same places as the Save/Open dialog, this bug does not apply to KDE 4.x (In reply to comment #3) > In 4.x the Places panel in Dolphin lists the same places as the Save/Open > dialog, this bug does not apply to KDE 4.x If I understand the original report correctly, this bug deals with the issue, that _Konqueror_'s sidebar does not have a "Places" section like the one featured in Dolphin or the file dialog, so it actually does apply. I had never notcied that, I use Konqeror mostly as a Web browser, I thought it had a places bar that was just turned off. But while, now that I understand the original issue here, I think it would be a good idea to have, it does bring up the question for me of what's considered an "advanced" feature. After all, Konqueror had bookmarks, which Dolphin does not, that to some extent replace the need for a places sidebar so it might not be neccessary in the "power users' file manager". > After all, Konqueror had bookmarks, which Dolphin does not, that to some extent

Using konqueror for file management, I miss the places feature quite a bit. For me as a user, there are two major reasons:
- Consistency with the Open/Save dialog. While I can and do create bookmarks for
my often-used directories, I miss the ability to synchronize them with the
dialog. The places bar would take care of that.
- Plugged-in devices are automatically added to the places bar, which is a really
nice to have.
So, from my personal point of view, places would definitely be a very welcome addition to konqueror...

I hadn't thought of that. Maybe Bookmarks should also be accessible from the dialog? Of course the Places bar does load volumes, so it does make sense to have it too. *** Bug 181060 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** SVN commit 1101649 by pino: Add a very simple sidebar module which shows the KDE "places" (just like in the KDE file dialogs or in Dolphin).
