Description Christoph Eckert 2003-06-15 19:15:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs

On Mac there is a feature called watched folders, so you can assign scripts to certain folders which are executed if some files change within this folder. Would be nice in KDE too:

- Automatically copy pics from cam to the pictures-Folder when cam is mounted on the mount point
- convert files to pdf when they are thrown to a special directory
- automatically append current date to files when they are moved to a directory
- much more

@Peter: what do you think about this wish? Could it be interesting for dolphin?
Comment 2 Peter Penz 2009-09-13 20:46:58 UTC
Very interesting feature, but this is out of scope of Dolphin IMO and would be a feature of kdelibs.
Comment 3 Christoph Feck 2011-08-03 13:49:56 UTC
No, not in kdelibs. This would be a separate daemon/configuration utility.

There's a related bug 163079 focusing on file conversion actions, overlapping with this as a special case of general script execution.

I wonder, if this is really a useful feature to integrate into dolphin. Maybe a standalone demon can watch certain folders and run scripts. The configuration and writing those scripts certainly requires a plethora of options and IMHO necessitates a new application.

It's like saying: "I want AutoKey-features in the keyboard-layout switcher ..." just because both applications happen to be related to keyboard input.

I used this feature on macOS many times and really liked it/ Moving the bug report to KIO. This could be implemented as a new tab in the properties dialog I suppose.
