Description Malte S. Stretz 2003-06-06 22:56:54 UTC
Version: 0.7.2 (using KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18

While I reported bug 59448, I noticed that KNode doesn't support the (inofficial) news: URL scheme. The latest semi-official references describing it, is this [1] document (I think).

It seems like KNode does support the following:
 * <news:bbigc2$a2l$1@mail.fh-wedel.de> will fetch the article with that Message-Id from any of your news servers
 * <news://news.fh-wedel.de/fhw.talk> wil jump to the newsgroup fhw.talk on news.fh-wedel.de
There might be more which I haven't tested.

The following doesn't work though:
 * <news://news.fh-wedel.de/bbigc2$a2l$1@mail.fh-wedel.de>: fetch that message from that server (related to bug 26997)
 * <news://news.fh-wedel.de/fhw.talk/1234>: fetch the message with the number 1234 in the group fhw.talk on that server; KNode tries to subscribe a group fhw.talk/1234!

While I was looking and fiddling around I also noticed the following:
 * <nntp://news.fh-wedel.de> is opened in Konqi; funny ;-)
 * Here [2] is an intersting thread about a possible standardized news: scheme; I didn't read the whole thread though and don't know what happened to the proposal

Cheers,
Malte

Set to NEW so this bug won't be killed by coolo's upcoming script (I think this is actually more a bug than a wish though a below-minor one).

Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug.
