Description Rafael Kolless 2003-06-05 00:17:30 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

Since my son uses the "switch current user" feature on my locked desktop.
It would be fine if the could be a password-/user check in this feature.
I think about a feature where you can choose users who are allowed to open a new session if anyone
locked the desktop.

Regards

Rafael

as-is this wish does not make sense, as it would effectively result in needing to
login twice to start a new session. what _does_ make sense are login restrictions for
certain users, i.e., some users are not allowed to start a new session if another x
session is already running. the usability-wise improved version would show the new
login right on top of the existing session and start the new x-server for the new
session only upon success, but this is a bit tricky, mostly because it has some
security implications.

Which security implications do you mean?
I like the idea of a implented loginwindow into the screensavermodi or the
general button on the desktop.

Last week my little son openend four desktops with the switching feature.
Since my family uses KDE as the standard Desktop it is really annoying :)

is this wish skipped for any further versions?
Comment 4 Oswald Buddenhagen 2005-10-11 21:28:29 UTC
skipped?
it takes the time it takes. (good) patches are welcome.
Comment 5 Andrey 2007-05-11 17:21:12 UTC
maybe an option to disable user switching while screen is locked?
Comment 6 Konstantinos Smanis 2011-04-09 16:37:22 UTC
Enabling/disabling user switching in a locked session is configurable using
Kiosk or by manually adding to share/config/kdeglobals:

[KDE Action Restrictions][$i]
action/switch_user=false

KDM is unmaintained and not used in KDE Plasma 5.

SDDM is the login manager used in KDE Plasma 5. If you still have this same issue with SDDM, please file an issue on the SDDM bugtracker (after doing a search for existing issues first!): https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/
