Description Jeff Harris 2003-05-13 01:05:56 UTC
Version: unknown (using KDE 3.1.9)
Compiler: gcc version 3.2.3
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.20-1-686-smp

I have a Logitech Internet Navigator Keyboard. XFree86 4.3 is configured with the keyboard model as Logitech Cordless Desktop Navigator. I use this configuration rather than the "Logitech Internet Navigator Keyboard" configuration because it provides mappings for all the keys on my keyboard.

Running 'xev' confirms that X has properly mapped all of the extra keys on my keyboard.

There are a certain set of keys that are not recognized when I try to configure an application to use them.
They are as follows.

sms/messenger	keycode 145. XF86Messenger
itouch keycode 147, XF86VendorHome
shopping keycode 148, XF86Shop
new keycode 187, XF86New
reply keycode 188, XF86Reply
forward keycode 118, XF86MailForward
send keycode 119, XF86Send
undo keycode 120, Undo
redo keycode 121, Redo
save keycode 194, XF86Save
my doc keycode 196, XF86Documents
my pic keycode 215, XF86Pictures
my music keycode 216, XF86Music

For example.
1) Select 'settings->configure shortcuts' from the kmail menu.
2) Double click the 'About KDE' action.
3) Press the 'Messenger/SMS' button.
4) 'Define Shortcut - KMail' dialog disappears, but the button text remains 'None' and pressing the key does not perform action.

This happens with every application I've tried except for kmenuedit. KMenuEdit properly shows and maps these keys.

you're out of luck, our keys guru is on honeymoon :)

Comment 2 Ellis Whitehead 2003-05-18 00:09:55 UTC
These keys can only be used as 'global' shortcuts, and not as normal application
shortcuts. A warning should be displayed though to let the user know that the keys
won't work. I'll take care of this.
Comment 3 Jeff Harris 2003-05-18 10:27:14 UTC
Why are these keys only useable as global shortcuts? Seems to me they should be able to be
used however the user wants.

*** Bug 66132 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 5 Lubos Lunak 2003-10-24 11:14:01 UTC
It actually works for me, with Qt-3.2 and both CVS HEAD and KDE-3.1.4.
Comment 6 Dylan Carlson 2003-10-24 15:27:24 UTC
I have qt-3.1.2 and kde-3.1.4 installed and it definitely does not work for me. So on the basis of l.lunak's comments, this is a Qt bug, which is fixed in qt=>3.2? That doesn't sound right to me.
