It would be most useful if you could have multiple correct fronts and backs for the same card. It's useful for language training. It would also be handy if you could specify some qualifying information for one side of the card(i.e. formal, informal). Thanks,

With that goes the need for multiple columns in edit view. This is essential for languages written in Chinese characters plus another writing system (Chinese with Zhuyin/Bopomofo, Korean with Hangeul, Japanese with kana), and for languages written in multiple alphabets (Serbo-Croatian in Cyrillic and Latin; Hindi/Urdu in Devanagari and Arabic; Mongolian in Mongol and Cyrillic; Pali in Sinhala, Burmese (Myanmar), Khmer, Thai, Devanagari, Latin; Sanskrit in several Indian alphabets plus Tibetan, Chinese, and Latin; and dozens of others). 

Have a look at Kiten for a design example for handling Japanese Kanji with multiple readings. Kiten allows the user to pick which column to consider "front" and which "back" and to be quizzed on any combination.

Functionality like this is now present in Parley (formerly KVocTrain), which has been extensively reworked for KDE 4.0.
