Description vkoch 2003-04-22 19:07:12 UTC
Version: 0.13.2 (using KDE KDE 3.1.1a)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

after upgrading to KDE3.1.1a from 3.1.0 Kghostview has problems displaying but the first page of a muliple page p.s. document.
On the sidebar I see all the page number.
Neither clicking on a page number on the side bar,
nor clicking the "next page" icon on the tool bar
nor pressing page-down moves to the next page.

However, if I click on another page number on the side-bar and then click on either "zoom-in" or "Zoom-out" the relevant page is diplayed.

Similar behaviour when embeded in konqueror

No problems before upgrade to 3.1.1a

Problem seems independent of specific ps file. I.e. I tried a large variety of them from different source. Always the sma problem

I used the kde-packeages from the SUSE ftp site

The same on slackware-9.0. Downgrading to 3.1.1 (from 3.1.1a) shows correct
behaviour.

Well, but I thought the whole idea of 3.1.1a was to fix security bugs which, among
others, are in kghostview. So downgrading is not the right things to do.
Hoping for some help from the kde-experts....

I see the same thing with 3.1.1a, built from source on NetBSD-current. Its definitely an issue
introduced with the security patch.

3.1.1a is broken on some systems. On the rush caused by trying to plug the security
issue, the patch was not tested enough. Also, some older systems (gs versions <
6.53 or < 7.04 IIRC) are impossible to support since they do not have the necessary
properties to use in a safe fashion.

I will attach a patch which fixes this, if you want a simple patch and don't want to
get all of BRANCH. This patch has already been applied to BRANCH and HEAD so
that both KDE 3.1.2 and KDE 3.2 will work. A warning for broken gs versions will be
put in soon as well.
