2 things: - if you don't restart the CUPS server, does the created
printer still prints the PS as plain text (after having completed
the printer installation)?
- in the add printer wizard, when testing the printer, a
dialog appears. While this dialog is shown, could you look into
/etc/cups/ppd/ directory for a file named like tmpprinter_xxxx.ppd
and send it to me (assuming you're using CUPS as print system).

Version: (using KDE KDE 3.1.1) Installed from: Gentoo Packages Hi, i have the following setup: ibm thinkpad, hp deskjet 1120C, actual gentoo linux, cups 1.1.18, ghostscript 7.05.5, hpijs 1.2.2, foomatic 2.0.0. printing works, after i configure the printer in the following way and restart cupsd after that. what follows is an exact description of what i did. start control center -> peripherals -> printer -> administrator mode -> add -> add printer/class... -> next -> local printer -> next -> hewlett-packard 1120C -> next -> HP -> deskjet 1120C -> (the foomatic-hpijs driver is chosen automatically) next -> driver information. here the window is higher than my screen, perhaps you can replace this dialog box with one, which contains a QTextView, so that the text gets a vertical scrollbar automatically, when it gets too big for the size you give to the dialog box. so after moxing the window up with alt-left mouse button and moving the mouse up, i clicked ok -> next -> test. the printer started printing, but it printed the following as text: %!PS-Adobe-3.0 %%Boundingbox: 0 0 612 792 %%Pages: 1 you get the idea, the postscript file is printed as text and not fed through the filters to create a rasterized output. then i finished the configuration in the normal way, gave the printer the name dj-hpijs-test and changed nothing else. after that i turned the printer off and on several times, so that no garbage was in the buffers of the parport and i verified, that the cupsd had no child anymore, so nothing wanted to print. then i restarted cupsd and in the still opened printer config window i right-clicked on dj-hpijs-test anc chose test printer. this time it printed the test page as it should. i did the same with the gimp-print driver, and it also didn
