Compiler:          gcc version 3.2.3 20030309 (Debian prerelease)
OS:          Linux (i586) release 2.4.20

Try to block-select all three of the following lines:

1. a short line
2. a somewhat longer line
3. a short line

There is no way to get the rightmost portion of line #2.  

The only solution I can think of is similar to most other gui text editors: when in block-selection mode, you must be able to move the cursor beyond EOL.
