well it doesn't vanish but often enough it opens compressed files embedded instead of downloading them. well it doesn't vanish but often enough it opens compressed files embedded instead of downloading them. ( kde 3.1.1 now ) confirmed on CVS http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=7559 klick download - this is a php script - and the underlying file is opened embedded. I found no way how to download the file using konqueror - except of removing ark from the file association (or using wget <URL> from konqueror) IMHO the user should be asked what he wants A different situation is if the user clicks on the gz/bz2 file, which is not the case here Subject: Re: konqueror opens tar.gz downloads from sourceforge embedded

RMB -> Save link as?
Greetings, Stephan
Subject: Re: konqueror opens tar.gz downloads from sourceforge embedded that would save the download as download.php, in fact, it would not also name that file download.php, it actually would download the download.php. opening anything embedded through a http link is not a good idea imho.. except for html and php files and stuff like that. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD0DBQE/Yzmt9+37qIEeCRARAva7AJDCMUzl79P4SaYZ37Q71sBY6iAAn2N0HYUn phHT97ktSEknxj9t/GW0 =rcSd -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- I have the same problem. It is mainly with Sourceforge but it happens elsewhere as well. If you SHIFT+CLICK before the autodownload starts, Konqueror crashes with a segmentation fault. If you let the autodownload continue you get a listing of the contents of the tar.gz file. Older versions of Konqueror didn't do this. I have also tried changing the file associations and that has no effect. It seems that Konqueror has tar.gz association hardcoded to something but I don't know what. As a last resort I removed ark from my system and Konqueror still opened the file and displayed a listing. This makes Konqueror almost useless for accessing Sourceforge. Please please please put the simple behaviour back as the default and make any automated stuff configurable for those who want it. Best wishes.... Colin 3.2 should ask whether to open embedded or save. Does anyone still have the problem with that version? If so, where? I can't reproduce the problem in KDE 3.2.2. No one has reported updates on the problem since last February, so I guess this one can be closed. *** Bug has been marked as fixed ***. |
