Sentry Crash Report:

Description Mike Thomas 2002-12-15 05:02:09 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.0.99)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc version 3.2
OS: Linux

I was previously running both kde 3.1 rc2 and 3.1 rc3 and all fonts such as Linux, Console, and Terminal were rendered correctly. However, after an upgrade of Xft2 to Xft2.0.1 and freetype to freetype 2.1.2, those fonts now contain extra spaces, almost looking like tabs and things of that extent. screenshot located at http://oberlin.cems.umn.edu/~mwt/fonts.png
a font preferenes screenshot in konsole can be seen at
http://oberlin.cems.umn.edu/~mwt/font-pref.png

Note, these screenshots were taken from a freshly compiled kde 3.1 rc5 which was compled after Xft 2.0.1 and freetype 2.1.2 were compiled and installed.

I believe that this is caused by bugs in Xft/freetype or possibly Qt.

On a brighter note, since recently konsole tries very hard to render fonts acceptable even with a
broken fontsystem.
