ENVIRONMENT SETUP:
A recently reinstalled Windows 11 Home,
digikam 8.8
2 monitors connected to a dedicated GPU.

STEPS:
Starting in an album view.
double click a video file.

RESULT:
The file plays for a second.
Digikam window closes.
There are no errors.


ISSUE DETAILS
When opening any of the same files via Explorer, the same files play just fine, using "mpc-be64.exe".
The issue may be limited to certain video files.
100% reproducible for those same files.

After each test-crash, ProcessExplorer shows a set of processes still running:
C:\ProgramData\chocolatey\bin\exiftool.exe
C:\Windows\System32\conhost.exe
C:\ProgramData\chocolatey\lib\exiftool\tools\exiftool-13.33_64\exiftool.exe

Experiment with the video settings in the digiKam system settings. If you have an AMD GPU, disable color conversion; otherwise, try disabling video acceleration completely. Note that a digiKam restart is required after each change. These crashes are still caused by incompatibilities with video acceleration and FFmpeg and need to be resolved there.

One more thing: you don't seem to be using ExifTool from digiKam. You should change that.
