Thanks for taking the time to report this! We have decided to address this issue by adding an option which remembers the last state of the checkboxes (see https://dev.gnupg.org/T7831), but I'm not entirely sure that it will work in your situation. I'll have to check. Note that this change won't be in the upcoming 5.0.1 release, but in a later 5.1.0 release. Personally, I'm not really in favor of the current solution (even with the mentioned change) and would have preferred a solution like the one you propose. I have argued that the checkbox for Encrypt to others is superfluous because either additional recipients are entered or not. For some reason this was regarded as error prone because the users could "forget" to add the additional recipients who are supposed to be able to decrypt the encrypted files. We'll see what the commercial customers report about the current behavior. I set this as FIXED in Gpg4win-5.1.0 in the hope that the mentioned change is an acceptable compromise that works for you. The proposed change -- to remember the last configuration -- works for me. That said, the "other users" checkbox itself is superfluous and can be entirely removed because either other users are either entered or are not entered. Thank you. |
Created attachment 188879 [details] "Sign and encrypt" panel when first opened SUMMARY On Windows 11 Pro, when encrypting a file, when the "Sign/Encrypt Files" panel first opens, the "Encrypt for others" checkbox is checked. The user must then uncheck that checkbox before proceeding. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Right-click on a file and select "Sign and encrypt" 2. The "Sign/Encrypt Files" panel opens OBSERVED RESULT Because the "Encrypt for others" checkbox is checked, if no other users are to be entered then the user must uncheck the checkbox. EXPECTED RESULT The checkbox should initially be unchecked, and then check itself when the user enters another user's email address or name.
