Dolphin opens an extra tab EVERY time I click on a folder (or a link to one) on the desktop.  That that tab is ALWAYS a split-view tab of Documents|Downloads, and is always the first tab, with the tab for the folder/link I've clicked on being the active tab.  (If needed, I can upload a video of it happening.)
     However, if I use a hot-key combination to open Dolphin, or create a 'Link to Application' to Dolphin on the desktop with desired folder as an argument, it opens JUST the desired folder.  Here is the text of the link (unmodified, opened using Kate):
