Sentry Crash Report:

Description Marcin Hamiga 2026-01-21 21:39:12 UTC
SUMMARY
I wanted to install Krita on my Macbook Pro with M4 Pro. When I downloaded the .dmg file from the official website, it consequently showed as corrupted. I tried to install it with Gatekeeper disabled, and manually extract the .app file via the cp command, but neither approach worked, showing I/O errors. The .dmg seemingly mounted correctly.
I downloaded the file four times, twice via Safari and twice via Zen Browser (fork of Firefox)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download the version 5.2.14 .dmg from krita.org
2. Try to install

OBSERVED RESULT
Finder error -36 | fcopyfile failed: Input/output error (when using the cp command)

EXPECTED RESULT
The app should be copied into the Applications directory

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
macOS: Tahoe 26.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Seems like those two files are the source of the problem
libqmlsettingsplugin.dylib
libkritapigment.19.0.0.dylib

I'm sorry but I could not reproduce this behaviour, I can download and install the application and d&d the krita.app into the Applications symlink on the dmg to install without issues.

because the description of the problem involves "Finder" and "cp", it is more likely there is something corrupted in the dowloaded file, the system or the session. The krita.app and krita.dmg is signed by trusted developers (me or halla), if Gatekeeper is telling you the file is corrupted it means the downloaded file you have does not match the dmg we signed. Flaky connections can cause this behaviour; also malware, failing filesystems or corrupted runtime executables (maybe too long uptime).

Just to be sure, is the report concerning the download from krita.org? https://krita.org/en/download/

Hi,
first of all thanks for the quick reply!

Yes, I downloaded the .dmg from the same link as the one you provided.

I tried installing it with Gatekeeper both enabled and limited to the maximum extent the OS allows. No dice in each instance.

I've managed to successfully install the nightly build though, so I think the theory of it being a 'me' issue is probably correct. You can mark this ticket as resolved.

Best regards,
Marcin
