SUMMARY

Sleep does not occur when expected, after a period of inactivity.

Sleep does occur in response to closing the lid of the laptop, 
or in response to sudo systemctl suspend


STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. on AC power

2. prefer sleep after one minute of inactivity

3. prefer sleep when the laptop lid is closed, even when an external monitor is connected

4. apply

5. do nothing for more than one minute


OBSERVED RESULT

6. nothing (the OS does not sleep)


EXPECTED RESULT

6. sleep.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Encrypted root-on-ZFS (originally installed with Ubuntu 25.04). 

The ZBook is currently docked, with one display on DisplayPort connected to the HP dock. 

Before I began experimenting with settings: a mobile hard disk drive was connected to the dock. USB. This drive contains a ZFS pool that was imported (lsof output below). Exporting the pool did not alter the effect of waiting more than one minute for OS sleep to occur.

No longer reproducible, and changes do take effect when applied, so: 

* I wonder what the problem was on Christmas Day (25th December).
