Recently, rectangles have appeared in some photos. I suspect these are from the focusing process?

You have enabled the display of focus points in the right-click context menu. This is not a bug, but a feature.
And yes, this feature has been around for a while...

The focus point of the Canon PowerShot is not displayed correctly in your sample image; I will fix this later.

Hmm, I didn't intentionally click on that.

But I've now learned that some camera models can save the focus points.

I tested additional sample images from the web.

This image was taken in 16:9 mode, but some focus point values ​​are so far off that I'd like to use a sample straight from the camera, without any editing.

Do you really want to invest time in troubleshooting? The camera is no longer in active use.
