Description kderocks38 2025-12-13 20:13:40 UTC
Hi,

In Kate no issue with this feature, but in kwrite all documents always open in separate windows no matter what.

In the configuration in the 4th menu from top the first option is unchecked but it doest not change anything.

kde 6.5.2, fedora 42

That only works for one instance, if you open files externally, that will just spawn a new process.
If you want to have that, use Kate, there stuff is shared over processes.

Should this be a feature you think? Imagine you open twice the same file without realising, you work in one, save it, close it. Then later you see a similar open file that was open and you save it losing the earlier bigger changes you made.

The option in the menu should then be rephrased because in kate its at the exact same position and has a different behavior, it's confusing
