Is the local disk in question indexed?
System Settings > Workspace > Search > Locations

No, local disks are not indexed. Local disks are not indexed in Kubuntu 25.04 (Dolphin 25.04.3) as well but pdf files thumbnails are shown.

Think I may be experiencing the same issue. Fairly sure it started when I upgraded from Kubuntu 25.04 to 25.10. System reports current Plasma version as 6.4.5.

What I've noticed is that existing PDF files in non-Home directories retain their thumbnail previews if they already had them (presumably because they're cached already), but any new PDFs added to a non-Home directory (e.g., the secondary hard drive I save most of my files to) will not have a preview thumbnail. For example, downloading a fresh file (lands in ~/Downloads) will show a preview, and copying that file to ~/Downloads or ~/Documents will show a preview, but copying it into a folder on a mounted drive will not. Copying a PDF file on a mounted drive that already has a thumbnail results in the new copy not having a thumbnail.

Looking in the File Search settings, I see that my /home folder is technically indexed, but I don't actually have file indexing enabled right now. The file indexing setting would've been disabled from well before this issue first started happening.

Let me know if there's any other info I can provide that'll help.
