Description kderocks38 2025-10-26 11:05:55 UTC
Pasting randomly and temporarly ceases working in libre office and pasting sometimes set elements as bold.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. copy something inside libre office writer
2. paste it using middle click

OBSERVED RESULT
-->Nothing gets pasted but if you redo the copy of the element and paste it then the paste works but then again later it ceases working.
-->Sometimes when the paste source has just 1 letter in bold, then the content pasted
becomes fully bold.

EXPECTED RESULT
Pasting happens all the time & without modifying the bold attribute of elements

Thanks for the bug report. I'm not immediately able to reproduce this in Plasma built from git-master and
Libre Office 25.2.6.2

We need more information so we can accurately try to reproduce this.
1. Can you please attach a screenshot of your settings for the clipboard - General tab?
2. How are you copying inside of Calc? Are you highlighting a cell and copying or highlighting the data in the formula bar and copying?

Ideally, a screen recording while you reproduce the bug will help us make sure we're using the same testing steps.

Thanks.

Here is a video for the pasting becoming bold without reason issue, the paste not pasting anything is very impredictable so I cannot take a video of it easily.
https://jumpshare.com/s/iBcXPNIXjmPjyMiDL39Y

Important : The bold issue is easily reproducible : open libre office and directly :
1°type 'this is a'
2° use CTRL B to activate bold
3° type 'test' use CTRL A and CTRL C and press enter to go to line
4° use CTRL V on the new line --> issue occurs
Note that if you disable the bold attribute using ctrl B or via the menu icon and do the paste the issue is not occuring
Tested on 2 kde installations on fedora

P.S: attachement file limit of 4mb could be reviewed here or allow webp or gif to be pasted?

Thanks for the additional details, that's helpful.
You should be able to attach webp or gif files to a bug report. Does that give you an error?

To make a screen recording file have a smaller size, you can use a video editor like Handbrake to reduce the resolution or size of the recording.
Note: Writer is the app used in the linked recording.

I was able to reproduce the formatting on paste bug Plasma built from git-master. In my case, the pasted text has no bolding at all.

This may be a bug in LibreOffice incorrectly selecting non-visible parts of the text, e.g. the formatting codes.
I couldn't reproduce it with Obsidian Notes or Marknote using the same steps, so it doesn't look like the clipboard is adding or removing formatting. Are you able to reproduce that with other applications?

The bug with text not being pasted is likely separate, but I'll keep the two issues in this one report for now until the developers can take a deeper look. Does that happen with just LibreOffice or with other applications?
Comment 5 kderocks38 2025-10-31 11:59:24 UTC

Happy that you could reproduce the issue, and thanks for keeping both issues in the same thread : bold not applied in your case makes is also a form of content missing when pasted.

Only in libre office writer I have the issue( for which I opened this thread); even in libre office calc the pasting in fine.

P.S 4mb max upload is debatable, thanks for the compression tool I created a feature request for gif/webp quality anyway in spectacle category

Any issue that can *only* be reproduced in Libre Office is a bug in the application. Please report that to them:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport

> Pasting randomly and temporarly ceases working in libre office

Does this happen with any other applications or just Libre Office? If it's only Office, this needs to be reported to them.
If pasting fails in other applications as well, please let us know where this fails for you.

Thanks!

I've found they already have an ongoing thread and bumped it https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79928

I hope they can solve this as libre office writer is essential for users wanting to switch to Linux.

Thank you for helping here anyway and checking the issue could be reproduced.

There could be a status or category for issues that are waiting for an external source to be solved but its just a suggestion.

Good find. Ouch, the age of that bug.

Unfortunately, that would be unmanageable. There are dozens of projects that either KDE uses (like apps and back end software) or use KDE (like distros). There is no value to KDE to track bugs in projects that aren't managed by us, when there isn't anything for us to do about them. It's up to individual users to track the bugs that affect them. We have plenty of open bugs against the things we do have ownership of. Thanks for your understanding.
