My krita, when I paste a photo ends up crashing the entire program. When I open it again, the brushes are reset and my workspace is all reset. The art is not autosaved and all recent files disappear. 

This happened around twice, the first time I tried updating the software and just set everything back to normal. But this is the second time.

I'm sorry, but that is not enough information to help you. Please, first make sure that you use the latest version of Krita (you reported you're using 5.0.6, which is on the older side) and then attach the output of help->krita log for bug reports to this report.
