these packages come straight from the ubuntu archive and thus as such the bug is an upstream ubuntu issue.

Not sure if action by me is needed when status is Resolved Upstream.

I ran Synaptic Package Manager and there was a category "installed updatable"
I found linux-modules-nvidia-550 and selected for update.
Re-ran Discover update and update ran OK

Hi, Keith

Thanks for this response. I'm not sure what to do with it though. I'm not
the most experienced Linux user but will give it a try. However, I'm not at
that machine now: it's at home and I'm at work, so I cannot try your
suggestions now.

Regards, Jacques

To install synaptic package manager run Discover and search for synaptic. When it is run, the column on the left has categories of "Installed", "Installed (auto removable)", etc. You should have an "Installed Updatable" category. Select this and scroll to the first linux-modules-nvidia-550 entry; right click and select "Mark for Upgrade"; Click "apply" in the top ribbon; and click OK to confirm.
It will then download and install all Nvidia modules. The discover update should now run.

Synaptic package manager was one of the original package managers and has a lot of options for fixing broken packages and updating. Discover should normally be used as synaptic does not handle snap and other more recent package types.

Hi, Keith

Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate it, and I cannot wait to
try this at home tonight.
