Description slartibart70 2025-10-16 20:14:01 UTC
Current situation:
The notification widget shows notification-messages stacked on top of each other, newest on top
(in case the systray is on the bottom of the screen)

This means that when focusing on new events you always need to look for the top of the stack

Wouldn't it be more consistent if new messages would appear on the bottom (near the systray) and move older messages up in the stack?
The same of course if you have systray on top of the screen: newest messages will always be close to the systray and move older message down.
(no idea what to prefer if you have systray left/right on the screen)

To keep things compatible, let the user decide about the sort-order in a configuration panel of the notification widget.

Maybe this sort order could also offer a configuration option for the items shown when clicking on the bell icon of the notifications widget.
It may be still good to have the newest ones in the popup list on top... (here also: let the user decide)

This bugzilla ticket is a bit all over the place, requesting three different things:
1. change the default sort order of notifications on the screen based on the position of the notification widget
2. make that configurable
3. make the order of notifications in the widget configurable, too

This makes it un-actionable, I'm afraid. In general we need one ticket per item. In this case #1 and #2 could maybe be combined.
