SUMMARY
Taking a screenshot region using super+shift+s results in the wrong screen region being copied.  Specifically when I have multiple monitors connected of differeint resolutions (two are 3840x2160 and the last one maxes out at 1440x900).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open the snipping tool
2. select a region
3. click copy
4. paste the result somewhere

OBSERVED RESULT
the pasted result will be a different portion of the screen than originally selected

EXPECTED RESULT
the pasted result should be the same section of the screen that was originally selected.

If I disable the third monitor (the 1440x900 one), the tool works fine.

This is an extremely old version of Spectacle, and it's also running on X11. Newer versions running on Wayland are recommended, and this issue is already fixed there.

X11 vs. Wayland asside, it looks like this is the latest version that I can install using the repository tools.

I switched to flameshot though, which seems to work fine...

Yep, because you're using an LTS version of Kubuntu, which means that all the software available to you is going to be up to 2.5 years old. The version of Spectacle you have is already 2 years old, and by the time Kubuntu 26.04 LTS comes out next spring, it will be 2.5 years old.

In general I recommend using the non-LTS versions of Kubuntu unless you have a specific reason for needing the LTS release.

I used to like being on the latest & greatest software, but I realized being a beta tester for stuff was non-ideal for daily use, which is why I like LTS these days.

Iirc, I tried 25 when it came out, and it didn't run nearly as smoothly on this machine.

As long as you're willing to accept the trade-offs that come with it, that's 100% fine!
