Feature Request: Nested Animations / Animation Groups

Hello! I’m an artist and animator who loves using Krita for 2D animation — the drawing tools and timeline workflow are amazing. However, I’ve noticed that Krita doesn’t currently allow nesting or grouping animations.

It would be incredibly useful to have the ability to treat an animation as a reusable unit or “symbol”, similar to how nested animations work in Toon Boom, OpenToonz, or Adobe Animate. This feature would make it much easier to:

Reuse small animated loops (like blinking eyes, rotating gears, etc.)

Animate complex scenes more efficiently without redoing frame sequences

Keep the timeline cleaner and more organized

Krita’s animation system is already powerful and intuitive — adding nesting would make it perfect for more complex animation projects.
Thank you for considering this suggestion, and for all your amazing work on Krita!

Hi Santiago, I'm happy to say that some form of animation "clips" is something that we plan on doing in the future.

Unfortunately, we don't really have much concrete to show for it right now and I can't give you any estimate on when this will be done, but I can only confirm that this is something that we want to do, and we know that it would be a really nice feature for animators. :)

Thank you for the feedback!
