Description Sanmay 2025-09-27 07:56:06 UTC
SUMMARY
Volume control for individual Web Browser windows is not accessible from the taskbar.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE (for Chromium)
1. Open Chromium and play a music video on YouTube.
2. Open a new window in Chromium and play another music video.
3. Hover over the taskbar icon for the Chromium window with the active music video.

OBSERVED RESULT
1. The option to adjust the volume is only visible when the window is active (see ADDITIONAL INFO).
2. Additionally, the taskbar allows volume adjustment for Chromium as a whole, not for each individual window. Meaning, changing the volume for one Chromium Window changes the volume for other window as well.

EXPECTED RESULT
1. The volume control option should be visible regardless of whether the window is active or not.
2. Furthermore, the taskbar should allow volume adjustment for each individual Chromium window, similar to the Applications tab in Sound Widget on System Tray.

ADDITIONAL INFO
1. Recreated for Chromium and Firefox.
2. On Chromium, just changing to a window allows to adjust the volume (via hover on taskbar icon) for that window.
3. On Firefox, you have to interact with the window like pausing the video and replaying it to make the volume adjustment work (via hover on taskbar icon).

I'm not able to reproduce the problem in Plasma 6.4.5 with Firefox or Chromium and the "Icons and Text Taskbar"
When I hover over any Firefox or Chromium taskbar entry with a video playing, I can see and adjust the volume bar via the preview.

Please let us know if you're using the "Icons and Text" or "Icons Only" taskbar
Also, if you could provide a recording of the problem, that would be great. We could see exactly how to reproduce this. Thanks!

'Icons only' taskbar. In any case, will update the system and update here.

Unfortunately this isn't something we can do anything about, because web browsers don't have a way of passing information about audio streams on a per-window basis. Anytime it seems to work with multiple windows, it's a coincidence

I can reproduce this with the Icons-Only task manager on git-master, but not with Icons-and-Text task manager.
