This is a very old version of KDE Connect. Please upgrade to a newer one and try again. I tried. This is the newest from the Linux Mint software manager. I tried to download from the KDEconnect website, but got an app stream error. FWIW, I learned that if I start a different KDE Connect tool, then start the SMS, things seem to work OK. There's not much to be done about that, unfortunately. It is what it is, so you'll have to live with old and buggy versions of non-Linux-Mint-sourced software.
