ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 antonismark03 2025-09-15 15:57:52 UTC
the issue seems to be related to kdiskmonitor icon not being recognized as an applet image, running plasmashell in shell yielded this:
KPackageStructure of KPluginMetaData(pluginId:"org.papylhomme.diskmonitor", fileName: "/usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.papylhomme.diskmonitor/metadata.json") does not match requested format "Plasma/Applet"
kf.plasma.quick: Applet preload policy set to 1
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/bin/plasmashell
KCrash: Application 'plasmashell' crashing... crashRecursionCounter = 2
fish: Job 1, 'plasmashell' terminated by signal SIGSEGV (Address boundary error)

KPackageStructure of KPluginMetaData(pluginId:"org.papylhomme.diskmonitor", fileName: "/usr/share/plasma/plasmoids/org.papylhomme.diskmonitor/metadata.json") does not match requested format "Plasma/Applet"

i tried to also get backtraces using GNU debugger but weirdly the desktop works fine if plasmashell is runned from QDB it only crashes if started from shell or by systemd service
Comment 2 TraceyC 2025-09-16 20:59:46 UTC
As the message at the top of the summary says, if something crashed, we need a backtrace of it so we can figure out what's going on. Can you please attach a backtrace of the crash using the coredumpctl command-line program, as detailed in https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_coredumpctl ?

If the crash doesn't happen when you're running gdb, you can try getting the backtrace with Valgrind.

Thanks.
