After turning on my computer today, I kept getting the message "Baloo File Extractor closed unexpectedly".

Temporarily adding $HOME/go/ to the exclude folders bypassed the problem.

So, fails on extracting the embedded metadata from images, for .png's, .ico's and .gif's

Maybe upload this as an attachment here, so it can be checked on other systems. There's a slight chance it's corrupted (you can test with pngcheck) but as a variety of image formats are affected, it feels more like a local system issue.

You could try indexing manually, with
    balooctl6 index chan1.png

This issue seems to be due to the exiv2 ABI break change.

After updating to 0.28.6-2, the crash problem disappeared.
