Volume Control Window showing channel in off setting

SUMMARY
The Profile setting for HDMI audio channel reverts to "off" after returning from sleep. This HDMI channel is an output of the video card going into a monitor with built-in speakers.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set HDMI audio Profile to "Pro Audio" (only option available other than off).
2. Set HDMI audio Profile to "Digital Stereo (HDMI x) Output"
3. Enter sleep mode
4. Resume from sleep

OBSERVED RESULT
After resuming from sleep, the profile setting for the HDMI audio gets reverted to off and the channel is then listed as inactive (shown in attachment). Steps 1 and 2 needs to be repeated manually to recover sound on this channel.

EXPECTED RESULT
Settings to be retained upon returning from sleep

Thanks for the bug report, and the screenshot. I see that the HDMI audio channel is listed as an "Inactive Card" after resuming from sleep.

Can we get the journalctl logs from just before you put the system to sleep and just after it was woken up?
Comment 3 traktorkardantengely 2025-09-04 19:52:36 UTC
Now that I was hoping for this to happen it actually took a few days each with multiple sleep / resume cycle for this to occur.

Here is the extract from journalctl, the log after sleep is quite long... but I could see this line that might be related to this issue:
"Sep 04 20:34:28 ShadowCachy plasmashell[1382]: org.kde.pulseaudio: No object for name "alsa_output.pci-0000_27_00.1.hdmi-stereo-extra2""
I have also noticed that my monitor is slower to turn on (power LED to change from standy to on state) and by the time the screen comes on, the desktop is already showing.

Before sleep:

Of course ;)

Thanks for the logs, those are helpful. It does look like the device might not be woken up properly on system wake. Since the hardware is still asleep, the software reacts as if it isn't present.

Where in the software that's failing is something I'll let those more knowledgeable determine.

It'll be somewhere in PulseAudio or PipeWire, I'm afraid. Nowhere in KDE code, at least.
