Description James Moe 2025-08-03 23:40:49 UTC
SUMMARY
I cannot find a way to display the image's EXIF (and other) data.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select an image
2. It may show EXIF data, or not. (It did after the initial install.)
  Select "Show editing tools."
3. The EXIF data is replace by Edit Tools.
4. Un-show editing tools. The left column is now blank, empty, forlorn, destitute, devoid of information, a barren landscape.
5. I could find no way to restore the EXIF data display. Restarting GW made no difference.

OBSERVED RESULT
The Exif data is now longer displayed and no way to restore its display.

EXPECTED RESULT
Some method to re-display the EXIF data.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Gwenview: 25.04.3
KDE Frameworks: 6.16.0
Qt: Using 6.9.1 and built against 6.9.1
openSUSE Tumbleweed (Xcb)
Build ABI: x86_64-little_endian-lp64
Kernel: linux 6.15.8-1-default

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I note that clicking on the Help button shown in the Configuration menus has no effect at all.

Is anyone there?

Yes, I just takes some time.

I am not sure, whether I can reproduce the bug.

Here is what I did:
1. Reinstall Gwenview.
2. Open an image. The sidebar shown was the attached one (Info Sidebar)
3. Show editing Tools
4. Un-Show Editing tools. Now the Sidebar disappears.
5. Click on the Arrow icon left to "Show Thumbnails". Now the Editing Sidebar appears again.
6. At the bottom of the editing sidebar, click the Information icon.

Alternatively, a faster way to swap back:
4. After editing, don't Un-Show the Editing Tools, instead click directly on the information icon in the bottom middle.

My questions:
1. Did this fix your issue?
2. If not, are we talking about the same EXIF sidebar (the one from my attachment?)
3. If not, can you send a screenshot and more details on what you mean?

> I note that clicking on the Help button shown in the Configuration menus has no effect at all.
I cannot reproduce this as well, clicking it show the Gwenview User Manual for me.

The issue is that the Information is blank, or possibly white text on white. The hovertext shows "Information."
At least I know what to do to view the image's information.
Thank you.

Ah, that's unfortunate. I'll try to change the bug title, and we'll see what we can do about the missing icons.

The screenshot doesn't look like you are using standard KDE Plasma as you Desktop Environment. Could it be that your DE has no version of the required icons and thus they do not get shown?
1. What is your DE?
2. Do you use any custom themes?
3. Do the icons appear when using a darker desktop theme?

Thanks, that was very helpful.
Your system is using GNOME (as opposed to most other users here, who run KDE Plasma).

Thanks, that was very helpful.
Your system is using GNOME (as opposed to most other users here, who run KDE Plasma).
I assume that the issue is with your distribution (Tumbleweed) and Gnome, not with Gwenview itself.
Unfortunately, we probably cannot check whether we can reproduce this, as most have a very different setup.
I would leave this bug open here and propose that you file it against the openSUSE bug tracker. If they say that it is not an issue related to them, then maybe we can have another look.
