I would like to suggest an improvement.

When viewing and cataloguing photos using the Preview and Thumbnails, sometimes (depending on the photo) the small sub menu the appears in the top left of the window can be very hard to see. The menu consists of seven small icons placed horizontally in the top left corner. 

I think it would be better if these icons were shown vertically against the left edge of the window. Many of my photos do not take up the whole window  but still sometimes the icons are hard to see. Particularly the icon for adding a face.

I would rather change the transparency than the position.
