SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install and open Dolphin
2. Mount an external drive
3. Move a (deletable) file to trash by mouse-dragging from the drive

OBSERVED RESULT
The file got PERMANENTLY deleted because trash-recovery was not enabled on the attached drive and there was not even a confirmation dialog. This is particularly bad because even an accidental release of the mouse button over the Trashcan shortcut can cause data loss (which happened in my case).

After this I enabled confirmation dialog for moving files to trash.

EXPECTED RESULT

The confirmation dialog is opening every time by default to avoid accidental permanent deletions (at least for those drives that don't have recovery support).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 Harald Sitter 2025-07-08 12:01:04 UTC
I'm afraid dolphin 22.12.3 is unfortunately no longer eligible for support or maintenance from KDE.
KDE projects typically move quickly, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the next one. Please update to dolphin 22.12.3 as soon as your distribution offers it to you, or use other application distribution methods such as Flathub. If you need support for dolphin 22.12.3, please contact your distribution, who bears the responsibility of providing support for older software in their "long-term support" releases.
If this issue is still reproducible in dolphin 25.04, feel free to re-open this bug report.
Thanks for understanding!
