Dolphin striping

Dolphin seems to have some issues with ugly striping patterns when using a Kvantum theme that enables transparency. After looking it up, it seems like this is a persistent issue that's bothered people for a while now (with comments to that effect on Twitter, Reddit, and other social media).

The problem persists even after trying many different color and kvantum themes (even after I restart). In addition, it seems to stay even if I set my "background" and "alternate background" colors to be the same, suggesting that's not the issue.

Please let us know which version of Dolphin you have installed. Also, can you give us an example of a theme where this can be easily reproduced?

Thanks.

Thanks for those details. I see from the GitHub repo that the theme hasn't been updated in 3 years

https://github.com/L4ki/Relax-Plasma-Themes/tree/main/Relax%20Kvantum%20Themes/Relax-Light-Kvantum

Since this is a 3rd party theme that KDE doesn't develop, can you test with one of the default Breeze themes? Does the same bug happen then? Thanks.

The bug is visible in several different Kvantum themes, including many available by default (e.g. KvMojave). It's consistent across transparent themes, i.e. the bug is in Dolphin (not just this particular theme).

It looks like users have been hacking around this for quite some time:

Thanks for the reply. I re-tested with the KvMojave and KVMojaveLight color themes on git-master, and can't reproduce.
The theme doesn't show transparency for me, how are you enabling it on your system? Once I know that I can try again.

To be clear, not all distros ship KVMojave by default. The themes and color themes developed and supported by KDE are the Breeze themes.

Ahh, I thought they had the transparency on by default. However, it should be possible to enable under "Compositing & General Look > Translucent windows", then reducing window opacity.

Yeah, and I'm confused about where the issue is coming from now, since it seems to happen in every Kvantum theme except Breeze-Kv specifically. I'm not sure if the issue is in Kvantum or if Dolphin is doing something weird that Kvantum doesn't expect.

Dolphin seems like it may have this situation special-cased for Breeze-Kv, since it looks like enabling transparency reduces the opacity, even if it's set to 100%.

Thanks for the additional details. I installed the Kvantum Manager, enabled Translucent windows, and set Reduce window opacity to 10%, but noticed it doesn't work with color themes in the System Settings.

How are you installing the Kvantum themes on your system? Is it through System Settings or the Kvantum Manager?
