SUMMARY

On systems where the applications view isn't supported due to I imagine a lack of systemd, the "Overview" page shows a giant block that simply says that the applications view isn't supported. This use of space doesn't seem useful. I suggest that it should embed the processes view in that section instead, since that one seems to usually work, and then the space would be filled with working and useful information.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Open KDE System Monitor on a system without systemd
2. Go to "Overview" tab

OBSERVED RESULT

A big part of the window simply tells you the applications view isn't supported.

EXPECTED RESULT

The part that tells you the applications view isn't supported should show the process view instead.

My apologies, I forgot to mention I realize this can be done with editing the page manually. But it's not a great experience for newcomer users to need to do this, and the lack of an applications view support is from my understanding likely going to be a permanent state rather than a temporary one. So it would be nice if on first launch, the layout was adjusted accordingly out of the box.

Indeed, though newcomers don't generally end up using distros without systemd (and if they do, it was a poor choice or recommendation since there will be tons of extra papercuts like this as a result of systemd becoming  more and more relied on over time).
