It's the same style we use in the Widget Explorer sidebar since a few Plasma versions ago, and no one has complained about that yet. I think we'll stick with the current style for a while longer to see what long-term feedback looks like. If there's more consistent negative feedback, we can change it. Ah, thanks for the info. I wasn't aware of it in the Widget Explorer. Still, it seems likely to me that more people will notice it in Kickoff, so it will be interesting to see more feedback. |
SUMMARY I like the idea of the "New!" badge showing newly installed apps. At the moment, however, I feel it looks a bit too brash, too in-your-face, too much like advertising copy. I have two suggestions: Remove the exclamation mark, and (maybe) see what it looks like in small-caps. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Run Kickoff when a new app has been installed 2. Navigate to the new app's entry 3. Look at the badge at the right of the entry text OBSERVED RESULT A badge that says "New!" which is a bit brash and in-your-face. (Looks like an advert or something). EXPECTED RESULT Something a little more classy. I recommend removing the exclamation mark. I think it might look better in capital letters ("NEW") but ideally in a smaller than usual font, i.e. what I think is called small caps. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Self-compiled from git master, so not really sure!
