I think that : - For Home, the arrow on the left is good. It allows to see what is up in the hierarchy. - For Trash, it make sense to have nothing at the left of the name, as it is shown as a tool that doesn't have a specific place in the folder. But we could argue that we could create a fake hierarchy for list of tools and thus have them in the same type of arrow. I am not sure that this list of tools is a good idea here. - For root (/), it is the same than home (/home/). The lock icon is here to say that we can't edit the content. But it looks really bad ! First I agree that the icon should be symbolic like you said, then the icon should be in the box that include the name (it would looks closer from the name and when hoovering it would looks like a property of the folder instead of something independent), and last I think that the icon should be at the right instead of the left. - For Network, having an edition text is good to warn the user that he can put a url here, but there are too many things. The "remote" text should be written as Trash, with capital letter and same style. When we click on it, there are things that are normal to see (like sftp), there things that I am not sure what they are suppose to do, and things that shouldn't be here (like desktop). If we want to link to unrelated place/tools, it should be done the same way on Trash, and it would be better with > on the left of the tool (looking like on Home) instead of mixing it with network tools. For network tools, when we click on one of it (like sftp), it is bad that everything disappear (no more network drop-down and no more text indicating that we should put an url). The folder icon between "remote" and the url is slightly confusing, like as written, it is for url, not local folder, and a folder icon can make us think of an ordinary folder path instead of something like internet. The drop-down arrow at the right is confusing as it contains a list of previous locations unrelated to remote places. It would be better to not have it here or only having previously entered remote access. I would add that it would be cool if the "Add Network folder" was visible when right clicking in the "folder" in place of the grayed "Create new". I don't mind having it in the tool bar too. |
Created attachment 181509 [details] The different location bar designs SUMMARY The location bar design is a little different across the Home, Trash, Network, and Root folders. - Home has a little arrow at the beginning - Trash has nothing - Networks has the immediately editable navigation bar, with a random symbolic folder icon, remote protocol dropdown menu etc. - Root has a colorful lock icon It'd be nice if these could be more unified. For example using a symbolic lock icon for root instead of a colorful icon. The Networks location bar seems like the most different from the rest. It has a very cluttered look to it. And when clicked all of them have a down-facing arrow that shows recent locations. That arrow feels somewhat out of place.
