SUMMARY
Only showing lower half of text per line.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
(in my case, wanted to know which devices were shown in /dev when plugging something in) 
1. ls -a > ~/file1.txt, *plug in device* ls -a > ~/file2.txt
2. open Kompare, select file1.txt, select file2.txt. 
3. compare

OBSERVED RESULT
Per line of file display, only see bottom half of the text.

EXPECTED RESULT
fully readable text
